When the Winds Fall Still

Love is not static;
It ebbs and flows with the tides.
Tranquil seas frame tempests.
Masts will creak in the squall.

Love deepens
Through thunder and torrent,
Strength found in the seams
Between what breaks and what holds.

Let your love swell with the storm;
You will weather it.
Clove hitched as one,
Knots to hold, not bind.

And when the winds fall still,
Your flotsam will wash to shore.
Treasures to be stowed
For calmer seas and brighter skies.

No, love is not static.
It is the motion that carries you,
The current beneath your craft,
The compass in your palm.

It’s the escape from the riptide,
The defence against the flood,
The bigger boat when
The fin is circling.

So, anchor when you drift.
Voyage when you must.
But always, always,
Sail home to each other.
